One-off Grant for Promotion of Self-directed Language Learning (English Language / Putonghua)

To strengthen students’ self-directed learning in English and Putonghua, develop school-based resources, and enrich the language learning environment, the Education Bureau launched the One-off Grant for Promotion of Self-directed Language Learning (English Language / Putonghua) in the 2024/25 school year.

  • English Language Grant — HK$200,000 per school
  • Putonghua Grant — HK$200,000 per school

FAQ

1. Which schools are eligible?

All public sector schools (government, aided, caput, special schools) and DSS schools offering the local curriculum.

2. How much funding is available?

Each eligible school will receive HK$200,000 for English and HK$200,000 for Putonghua, totaling HK$400,000.

3. What can the grants be used for?

Purchase or subscription of resources that promote self-directed language learning and/or enrich the language learning environment

Hire non-establishment English or Putonghua tutors, or non-teaching staff, to support language learning and/or organize activities

Procure services from individuals or professional organizations to develop school-based resources or organize language activities

4. Can the two grants be combined?

No. The two grants are separate and must be used independently.

5. What is the usage period?

From the 2024/25 school year until the end of the 2026/27 school year (August 31, 2027).

6. Is an application required?

No application is required. The EDB will disburse the grants directly to schools’ designated bank accounts in December 2024.

7. What are the reporting requirements?

Schools must keep clear usage records and comply with EDB procurement and accounting procedures.
